Debs W replied: "Chester is nice....but so is Derby and Liverpool. Blackpool if you want a fun weekend but it's not very cultured!"
Tracy L replied: "Come up to edinburgh, beautiful city with loads to do, get a cheap flight up and try a website called top secret hotel(s) to find a cheap hotel. You will love it!"
Kate replied: "Cheltenham is lovely, i know because i live here. In fact anywhere in the Cotswolds is nice. Oxford is also nice, as is Bath. Harrogate is lovely too. Or Torquay or Portsmouth if you want to have nice romantic strolls along the Prom"
Sue C replied: "How about Bath? I've only been a couple of times but really loved it - not that far from London - architecture is interesting, lively city, good food, easy to walk about so no parking worries, lots of places to stay, really good food. Have a good weekend. Hope this advice not too late."
Angel replied: "Bath, York, Chester, Lake District,"
carina replied: "yes you could go to France, if you can't afford Eurostar go as a foot passenger on a ferry ... try Boulogne rather than Calais (and they mostly understand English although trying out whatever French you can manage would help an awful lot) Durham - Colchester - Norfolk Broads I wonder why no-one has suggested Brighton if you're willing to travel at anti-social times and book in advance you can get some great flight bargains to Edinburgh, Inverness, Ireland etc"
ukok replied: "Stratford on avon, lincoln or chichester."
anne b replied: "Oxford is nice and has plenty to see and do."
IP_Outcast asked: "I need a break, but I don't have much money. I can go for one week maximum or possibly just a weekend and I'd be willing to stay in the UK; it doesn't have to be somewhere abroad. Additionally me and my friends might make a stag do out of it for our other mate, but I'm not sure. If you can recommend anything it'd be really appreciated, I really need to escape from everything for a little while!"

*sienna* replied: "Amsterdam is great and very cheap xx"
lynn o replied: "why dont you try a caravan site? they rent vans out and sleep up to 8 people if you use the pull out bed thats usualy found in the front room(metal action usualy) if there is 8 of you going it will be realy cheap to hire as you all share the cost.best to go on a long weekend as there will be entertainment at the weekend and you can get over any hangover by monday,it should be pretty cheap now as school hols finished.hope you find somewere and have a good time."
kirsty_bell1 replied: "Hi... Well, I know you did say you'd be willing to stay in England, but if you did fancy going further a-field... I did have a totally awesome time visitng Brussels this year.. It's kinda a place thats not really over publicised, but its great..We booked through last minute.com and got a flight and hotel deal for about £150, which I think is quite reasonable... The prices when you're there are fine as well.. Also, theres a train station, which has trains running to Brugges (which takes about 30 minutes..kinda a chocolate box town, but nice to see..) and if you're feeling adventurous Amsterdam is 3 hours.... And well, theres all kinds of fun to be had there!! happy travelling... May I recommend Frommers.com its slightly more user friendly than Lonely planet as a travel destination info site... x The people were really welcoming, there were laods and loads of bars and pubs selling great dutch, german, belguim (of course!) beers... There were Waffles stands were you could get a chocolate, cream, ice cream strawberry, whatever you imagine on a freshly made waffle (yum!) the scenery isnt too shabby either...Hand on heart, grande place in brussels, with exception of the coloseum in rome, was the most spectacular architecture Ive ever seen, and ive been to a lot of places!! So, maybe thats something for you to think about..."
itsa o replied: "P & O Portsmouth to Bilbao a great trip with a great ship and fantastic staff i love it try it 3 nights 4 days you can get bus trips (( web search )) where i live Stockton-on-tees Compass Royston do these trips from £70.00p each worth every penny with a great coach driver ERNIE who will look after you"

Coochy_COO! replied: "Brighton's a good place. Or the Hotel du Vin hotel in Winchester is really nice. How about Henley in Oxfordshire - that's amazing and easy for you to get out to on the M40 from NW London."
hak replied: "theres 2 gorgeous places - 1) The cotswolds near oxford, 2) The new forest in hampshire . So much to do and so relaxing, lots of sites to visit if you want. Car is advisory"
Latin Techie replied: "Brighton or Portsmouth, or Exeter."
Aslan replied: "how about the isle of wight? that has plenty of things to do even during the winter months"
mighty_ulysses asked: "I'd like to go on a nice super cheap break in Ireland, check out some beautiful countryside and generally get away from the hustle and tussle of London. Possibly stay in a cottage, and it'd be a bonus if I can get there via non flying means such as a ferry. I'd love to know you're recommendations. Oh and it's for two people and we're traveling from London. Thanks!"

Sky replied: "Dublin or Donnegal, the Giants Causeway"
Simon K replied: "somewhere on the west coast, e.g. a village near galway. the aran islands are amazing, but you need the weather..."

Not one of the crowd! replied: "Kerry, beautiful scenery. Kilkenny is a med evil city and is a great place to visit. You could use it as a base if you wanted to check out the countryside. Other places you could think about: Wicklow, Clare, Donegal. Visit the site"
Anon replied: "Try has lots of accommodation, thinngs to do, activity breaks etc I'd suggest staying somewhere in the south east if you don't want to travel too far, from Dublin. Carlow is 1.5 hrs, Kilkenny 2hrs (all approx times). Cheap flights from. Enjoy"
keano replied: "Dingle"
Annie D replied: "We went to Ballycastle in Northern Ireland at Easter. Giants Causeway Coast is Great!! Bushmills Distillery, Food and people are great. Will go again."
wendilynne replied: "Killarney!"
peterpeterpeter1981 replied: "you can fly to Cork and i think kerry airport with air arean good and cheep. the keryy scenery is the best in ireland bought me gf there 2 wk ago for bday!!!"
Rock-Chick replied: "If you would rather take the boat and bring your car here then take the ferry to belfast and drive up the coast through portrush stopping at the giants causeway and then on to donegal. You will pass through some lovely towns, take in some great sites on the way and Donegal is one of the most picturesque and beautiful counties in Ireland. There are also a number of tourist attractions, walks, beaches etc on the coastal road from belfast to Donegal. Other than that you could take the boat to Dublin and drive from there to Galway or down towards Kerry. These are two great counties with plenty to do. Both of these options will take a few hours drive though! For more options and prices see You can search for more info on their or contact the tourist board by phone for some great advice. Good luck, and if you make it here enjoy your trip!"
Hono_Loulou replied: "try Landmark Trust for old cottages / lighthouses / farmhouses - almost always in beautiful countryside but still reasonable driving distance to cities or towns of interest. Would agree with previous answer - Kilkenny is beautiful, with a castle in the town itself. Less than 2 hrs' drive from Dublin, important if you're only coming for a weekend. I'd say Kerry / Donegal would be too far, given you're planning on coming on the ferry. Ferry from Holyhead (Wales) to Dun Laoghaire. Also, if coming by car you can get detailed road directions from AA Routeplanner Ireland. Alternatively, Aer Arann flies into the West and Southwest from London (Luton) I think -"
Orla C replied: "If you want to get away from the city, you should try the South-West of Ireland. Dingle is very nice, lots of good accommodation available there, also the Beara Peninsula. But you should be aware that the roads are not the best ... and that public transport is very different to that of London. In fact, in many rural places it's nonexistent. Hire a car and drive very carefully. And if you do go to the Beara Peninsula, I hope you have clear weather, then you really should go up the Healy Pass, the view across the valley and across the inlet to the next peninsula is stunning."
daftlogic replied: "take a tent, visit st patricks monument just outside of downpatrick county down. its a big massive statue on top of a hill overlooking everything, its some view. be careful its a hard old trek up the hill be sure to bring plenty of water"
L S replied: "Ireland."
dschlotzhauer replied: "I would recommend renting a cottage in Ireland from one of these owners. In the off season you can generally rent a lower prices."
xxxopxxx replied: "You should consider going to Donegal! It is probably the most layed back county in the whole of Ireland!! Donegal has rolling hills, beautiful countryside....loads of fields and farms......mile long beaches(but the water is freezing!) also many people here still actually live in thatched roofed houses!!! The only down side is that you cannot get to Donegal by boat....because it is on the on they coast on the opposite side of England!! There is one airport but Derry airport is probably the most convenient!!!! You will not regret it as it still has all the brilliant night life.....check out Glenties and Letterkenny !!! Please come!!!! (^^,)"
Angel replied: "If you call Virgin trains, you can book the train and the ferry through them. You travel from London Euston to Holyhead and then with Irish Ferries to Dublin Ferryport. It costs £32.00 Return. When you call to book ask for a Dublin 14. The number is 08457 222 333. The most beautiful place in Ireland (i think ) Is Co Donegal. Once you get to Dublin head to the main bus station, you can catch a bus to any county in Ireland. Hope this helps."
allahoi replied: "Cork and then you can see blarney castle it amazing."
Melok replied: "You can fly from London to Cork in about 50 mins and from there you can hire a car and drive west. Check out Dingle if you can. Really chilled out place and some amazing scenery. If you want to go a bit further, try Donegal. I'm Irish myself and I thought I saw all of this country's scenery. Then I went to Donegal.... for tousist info and pics. for the cheapest flights. Enjoy your trip!"
thomasrobinsonantonio replied: "If you are taking a car you have a chance. If a Ferry foot passenger, you travel from Euston to Holyhead, then either high speed ferry (more expensive) or ordinary to Dublin or Dun Laoghaire. Everything within forty miles of Dublin is quite expensive but if you are mobile you can move out into the countryside where you will get good quality Bed and Breakfast reasonably. Be careful as the Ryder Cup is coming up and the whole middle section of Ireland will be packed solid. South of Dublin and Dun Laoghaire is Bray and Greystones. Bray is a good base for long lovely walks, small mountains surrounding for casual climbing and the sea nearby. There is a bus trip to Glendalough which is worth seeing and a visit to Guinness Brewery and Dublin sightseeing bus is a favourite. You can use the same ticket all day, getting on and off the bus as much as you like. Have a lovely time.........."
Elsie asked: "I am looking for a celebration weekend in the Uk within a 2/3 hour drive from surrey. Ideally a house for sole use for 8 people with some facilities like games room, jacuzzi. Also butler service providing breakfast and a nice evening meal cooked and served."
